Barbie Ferreira reveals truth behind ‘Euphoria’ exit: “I wasn’t showing my potential”
Among the familiar faces in the third season of HBO series Euphoria, Barbie Ferreira is notably absent. The actor has now opened up as to why she left the show after the second season.
Ferreira played Katherine ‘Kat’ Hernandez from 2019 to 2022, transforming throughout the episodes from an insecure high-schooler to a cam-girl dominatrix.
Though the long-awaited third season of Sam Levinson’s hit show is set to air this month, Ferreira will play no part in it.
Speaking to Collider, the actor admitted that as the second season dawned, it “just felt like the character wasn’t Kat anymore.”
She added, “I think everyone knew that the end of the story was there because we didn’t have anything else to put [in]. I mean, obviously there could have been, but it just wasn’t happening.”
With her character slinking tragically into the background of the all-star ensemble, which includes Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi, and Zendaya, and with the show taking an infamously lengthy time to shoot, Ferreira boiled her choice to leave down to “a decision as an actor”.
She added, “I felt like I wanted to do more things. I didn’t care if it was like the biggest TV show on HBO. And I went straight into doing like $1 million budget indies, you know?”
Ferreira elaborated, “It’s just more about expressing myself. I felt like I wasn’t showing my potential as the actress that I know that I am.”
Despite her distance from one of the biggest series in modern television, Ferreira is still backing her own corner. “It’s interesting because people tell me, you’re so confident, and it’s so funny. I’m the only person in my life who’s believed in me since the beginning,” she shared.
The actor’s upcoming roster includes a remake of the 1978 film Faces of Death, as well as indie music movie Mile End Kicks.
The third season of Euphoria will land on April 12th.
As well as the returning actors, the series will also welcome a host of new names, including Trisha Paytas, Natasha Lyonne, Danielle Deadwyler, and Eli Roth.
