Watch Oasis play ‘Live Forever’ and pay tribute to Gary ‘Mani’ Mounfield

On November 22nd at their show in São Paulo, Oasis paid tribute to their late friend, and the bassist of Stone Roses and Primal Scream, Gary ‘Mani’ Mounfield.

It was announced by Mani’s brother, Greg, on November 20th, that the 63-year-old musician had passed away. At the time, Greg wrote online: “It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to announce the sad passing of my brother Gary Mani Mounfield. RIP RKID.”

At their first show since news of his untimely death, Oasis were sure to dedicate ‘Live Forever’ to the icon.

Near the end of the song, a picture of Mani from his youth was projected onto the screen behind them, and the pair played with their backs to the audience, gazing instead at his larger-than-life portrait.

At the end of the song, Liam shouted to the audience, maraca in hand, “And he can have this one as well! ‘Rock and Roll Star’!” before launching into the next tune.

This passing hits home for the band; earlier this week, Liam wrote on X: “In total shock and absolutely devastated on hearing the news about Mani my hero RIP RKID LG.” Oasis drummer Paul ‘Bonehead’ Arthurs followed suit, writing, “RIP Mani. X”.

Additionally, Mani’s last public outing was even alongside Liam Gallagher at Ricky Hatton’s funeral. The band also paid tribute to Hatton using the words of the iconic song.

Sharing his grief at the time of the boxer’s passing, Liam wrote on X: “Absolutely devastated to hear the news about RICKY HATTON it was an absolute honour to know him and carry his belts RIP CHAMP LIVE FOREVER LG.”

Throughout their Oasis Live ’25 tour, the band have previously honoured the late Liverpool footballer Diogo Jota, as well as Ozzy Osbourne on the LED screen behind them during ‘Live Forever’. They also paid tribute to footballer Diego Maradona in Buenos Aires.

The show in São Paulo will be followed by another on November 23rd, which will mark the end of their Live ’25 tour. Fans are speculating as to whether the band will announce more live dates.
