Watch Hayley Williams cover Sinéad O’Connor in Dublin
During her recent tour show in Dublin, Hayley Williams honoured the late Irish icon Sinéad O’Connor with a special cover.
Williams was in the Irish capital to bring her first European tour to a close with two shows at the National Stadium in Dublin, which took place on June 29th and June 30th.
For the final night, after the Paramore vocalist treated the audience to cuts from her latest album, Ego Death at a Bachelorette Party, Williams covered O’Connor’s classic track, ‘Mandinka’.
Before she unleashed the cover on the Dublin crowd, her audience united to chant “Free Palestine”, which led Williams to say, “This goes out to all the Irish artists who use their voice, they’re so inspiring. And of course, Queen Sinéad O’Connor.”
‘Mandinka’ appeared on O’Connor’s 1987 debut album, The Lion and The Cobra, but despite being a cult classic among her fans, it was rarely performed by the Irish singer in concert.
While Williams has now concluded her first European tour, which came after a sold-out run across North America, she won’t be staying away from the road for too long.
She recently confirmed details of a new tour, titled The Hayley Williams Show, which will start on September 3rd in West Palm Beach, Florida. Throughout the busy month, she will perform on stages in the likes of Atlanta, Charleston, Charlotte, Boston, New York, Cincinnati, and Seattle.
The September run also includes two nights at New York’s Forest Hills Stadium, with a capacity of 13,000.
In November, she will perform in Mountain View, San Diego, Houston, New Orleans, and Southaven, as well as two nights at Los Angeles’ iconic Hollywood Bowl.
Taking to Substack, she reflected on her first batch of dates in an essay in May, writing, “I’ve not been this hungry for my days in quite some time. Nor my nights. Gorging on future memories while they’re hot and ready. Practicing hyper-presence. Swimming in a spiral, in a familiar fishbowl, back around to lessons I didn’t learn the first or fifty-leventh time. Hopefully, my brain is stitching all this together.”
