Watch Anne Hathaway and Michaela Coel in spellbinding trailer for ‘Mother Mary’

The trailer for A24’s latest pop music thriller Mother Mary, starring Anne Hathaway and Michaela Coel, has been released.

Hathaway features as the titular character of Mother Mary, a pop star drawn back into the orbit of a fashion designer named Sam, played by Coel, when she finds herself in need of a dress for her new tour.

However, the pair then embark down a different path into a spellbinding and psychosexual relationship with one another, with lasting consequences for both their lives and careers.

Mother Mary marks a particularly ambitious project on both fronts of film and music, as it is accompanied by a soundtrack composed by Daniel Hart, along with contributions from pop stalwarts Jack Antonoff, Charli XCX, and FKA Twigs, the latter of whom also stars in an unspecified acting role.

With American filmmaker David Lowery directing the movie, the cast is also rounded out by Hunter Schafer, Kaia Gerber, Jessica Brown Findlay, Alba Baptista, and Sian Clifford.

For both Charli XCX and FKA Twigs, their involvement in creating the soundtrack marks another move into the film landscape for them both respectively, after the former recently unveiled the trailer for her movie The Moment, also being produced by A24.

Additionally, FKA Twigs was also recently announced as being set to star in an erotic thriller named The Lonely Woman alongside Chloe Sevigny, which is set for release later next year.

It seems to have taken some time for Mother Mary to have finally reached the point of being close to release, after filming reportedly began in May 2023 and concluded in July 2024.

Although a specific release date has not yet been revealed, it has been confirmed that Mother Mary will hit cinemas in April 2026.
