Van Morrison announces additional London show due to high demand
Van Morrison has announced an extra show in London this September, following high demand for his forthcoming five-night residency at London’s British Airways ARC venue.
Earlier this year, the Northern Irish singer announced that he would play the venue for five shows, becoming the first artist to take up residency status at the venue after it opens on June 16th.
Now, Morrison has sandwiched an extra live date into his run. On September 26th, after two nights at British Airways ARC, Morrison will perform at New Wimbledon Theatre.
His show at the 1600-capacity Edwardian theatre provides Morrison fans in the British capital another opportunity to catch him perform live.
These shows will follow on from appearances at various European festivals over the course of this summer, including the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland in July and Gent Jazz Festival in Belgium.
Looking ahead at the London shows, Morrison has opted for a far more personal experience to connect with his audiences, with the capacity capped at 3,800.
The British Airways ARC is part of a £1.3 billion redevelopment of the Olympia in London being operated by AEG. British singer Self Esteem will open the venue on June 16th, with a final performance of her 2025 album A Complicated Woman.
Morrison last played live at Cheltenham Jazz Festival on April 30th, where he opened with ‘Dweller on the Threshold’ and ‘Snatch It Back and Hold It’ and, some 16 songs later, ended with a rendition of the old fan-favourite Them tune, ‘Gloria’.
Recently, he was honoured by Bob Dylan with a cover of the deep cut ‘Going Down to Bangor’, in tribute to their longstanding friendship, at his show in Belfast last November.
Tickets for the newly unveiled show will go on sale on June 5th.
