Van Houten announce debut album ‘The Tallest Room’
Leeds-based shoegaze band Van Houten have announced their debut album, The Tallest Room, set for release this spring. Additionally, they have shared the brand new single ‘Never Did Come Back’.
Following the nostalgia-infused first single ‘Coming Of Age’ late last year, ‘Never Did Come Back’ plunges Van Houten’s sound into darker territory. Amidst twangy guitars and fuzzy noise, vocalist Louis Sadler finds himself lost at sea.
The new track takes the title for Sadler’s favourite song the band have written to date. “It’s definitely the song from our new record that we feel identifies us best as a band,” he commented, “It comes from a dark place, talking about the seemingly inescapable sinking that I’ve felt while battling mental health issues. I’d say that if you only listen to one Van Houten song then make it this one.”
The new single also marks the announcement of the band’s debut album, The Tallest Room, which will be released by Clue Records/EMI North on March 22nd, 2024. Van Houten have taken seven years to craft the record, working with Bdrmm producer Alex Greaves.
Speaking about the importance of their debut release, Sadler shared, “Our debut feels like the first real milestone in our musical journey. For us, this record represents a new beginning as a band and also me personally.” He suggested that the album is about “gaining perspective, moving forwards and, while it acknowledges darker experiences and feelings, it’s ultimately about moving on.”
The record will be available on vinyl in baby pink or baby blue. The LP will also be available on CD.
The Tallest Room is set for release on March 22nd, 2024 via Clue Records/EMI North. Listen to ‘Never Did Come Back’ below.
