US government offer advice to Olivia Rodrigo after she slams “dystopian” ICE propaganda
The US government has clapped back at Olivia Rodrigo after the singer-songwriter deemed their usage of her song in a previous promotional video “dystopian”.
At the tail-end of 2025, Rodrigo called out the White House and the Department of Homeland Security for their use of her song, ‘All-American Bitch’, in a promotion video for self-deportations.
“Don’t ever use my songs to promote your racist, hateful propaganda,” the 23-year-old star commented online as the original media surfaced.
In a new interview with British Vogue, Rodrigo was asked to reflect on this time. “That was awful. Dystopian,” she said. “The way that ICE is ripping apart communities and terrorising people is so disturbing… It’s a really sad, scary time.”
In light of this new comment, a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security issued a statement that began, “America is grateful all the time for our federal law enforcement officers who keep us safe.”
As per Billboard, the statement continued, “We suggest Ms. Rodrigo thank them for their service, not belittle their sacrifice.” These are the same words thrown back at the star in November last year, in light of her original push back.
The statement then added, “ICE does NOT separate families. Parents are given a choice to either take their child with them or place them in the care of someone they designate. This is consistent with past administration’s immigration enforcement.”
Rodrigo has never been afraid to call out ICE, as their increased presence in Minnesota earlier this year led to avoidable tragedy; in reaction to the death of ICU nurse Alex Pretti, she wrote online, “ICE’s actions are unconscionable, but we are not powerless. Our actions matter. I stand with Minnesota.”
The star is also an avid supporter of “our right to freedom of speech and freedom to protest.”
In the new interview, it was also revealed that Rodrigo has spent several “memorable nights” in the studio with The Cure’s Robert Smith ahead of her upcoming album.
