Trent Reznor says Nine Inch Nails “may tour again” in the future

Trent Reznor has clarified the status of Nine Inch Nails as a touring band.

Reznor’s latest comments come after he previously suggested that it may be a considerable length of time until fans see Nine Inch Nails again once their Peel It Back tour concludes.

He said in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on February 27th, “I don’t know if we’re gonna be touring anymore after this, but I’m proud of the show that we’re doing right now. And I’m fucking grateful that you’ve chosen to spend your evening with us tonight.”

Then, on the final night of the tour, in Sacramento, California, on March 16th, Reznor provided hope that Nine Inch Nails won’t be going away permanently after all.

Reznor shared with fans, “As some of you may know, this is the last show of the tour. And to be clear, I think I said something the other day that then got misconstrued into something that is not intentionally necessarily true.”

The Nine Inch Nails maestro continued, “What I said was, this is the last show of this tour, and we don’t have any shows booked, and we don’t have any plans to book any shows any time in the future, so far. That doesn’t mean we may not tour again. We may tour again. It won’t be next month, it won’t be this year.”

Reznor then directly addressed his previous comments, explaining, “I never said we were intentionally stopping, and I never meant that.”

He shared, “But, to be truthful, we didn’t tour for a while before this tour because, frankly, I didn’t know if we could do it well, and if it still mattered, and it really [felt] like we had something to say.”

Despite his fears that there wasn’t a place in the world for Nine Inch Nails as a relevant act anymore, Reznor proudly said of the tour, “And the combination of this band, and this crew, and a lot of hard work, and we put on a show that I’m really fucking proud of. I thank you for coming and attending. I appreciate it. It makes us all feel like we have a fucking purpose.”

Reznor concluded by looking ahead to the future, unveiling plans to record new music with Nine Inch Nails and ultimately, if things go according to plan, they’ll tour again, stating, “And, what we’re going to do is work on some new music, and make some new shit. And if we feel inspired, and if we feel we can beat this [tour], we’ll see you again. And I hope to see you again, and I hope you come see us if we do.”

It has been a long wait for a traditional Nine Inch Nails album, but they did release the Tron: Ares soundtrack album last September.
