Watch gruesome trailer for Stephen King’s ‘The Long Walk’ starring Mark Hamill
Lionsgate has confirmed that an early, brutal Stephen King novel is finally coming to the big screen with the new, harrowing trailer of The Long Walk.
In King’s post-apocalyptic view of the future, a group of young men must walk to their deaths, and the last one standing wins a prize. Should they walk less than three miles an hour, they will be shot. The trailer is a tense depiction of the insane endurance test, without giving away too many plot developments.
The movie will heavily incorporate dystopian elements, as it will be directed by Francis Lawrence, best known for his work on The Hunger Games movies. JT Mollner, who wrote Strange Darling, penned the original screenplay.
The cast includes Cooper Hoffman of Liquorice Pizza and David Jonsson of Alien: Covenant. The ensemble also includes Garrett Wareing of Manifest, Tut Nyuot, Charlie Plummer, Ben Wang of Mean Girls, Roman Griffin Davis of Jojo Rabbit, among others.
Hoffman plays Raymond Garraty, a young man mourning his father’s death at the hands of an authoritarian government. Jonsson plays his new pal Peter McVries, who is at his side during the deadly quest.
The trailer is punctuated by the voice of Mark Hamill, best known as Luke Skywalker in Star Wars. He’s put down the baton for good and now embodies the evil Major character in the adaptation.
The synopsis gives away little, sharing that the film is “an intense, chilling, and emotional thriller that challenges audiences to confront a haunting question: how far could you go?”
Lionsgate have several highly-anticipated films in the pipeline, including The Weeknd’s Hurry Up Tomorrow, which will be released May 16th, as well as John Wick spin-off Ballerina, released on June 6th.
The Long Walk will hit theatres on September 12th, 2025.
