Tomorrowland builds new main stage and will go ahead as normal despite fire
Only two hours before the festival officially began on July 18th, Tomorrowland announced that it would proceed as normal with an “alternative setup for the beloved main stage”, which recently caught fire.
The Orbyz caught fire on the evening of July 16th. The blaze was huge, and videos quickly went viral, but thankfully, no injuries were reported.
The festival issued an initial statement mourning the loss of the huge sage, saying in part, “This wasn’t just a stage. It was a living, breathing world. From the very first sketch on a blank page to countless hours of conceptual design, artistic collaboration, engineering, crafting, and building, every single piece of Orbyz carried part of our soul.”
In a follow-up, the festival announced, “What we can confirm is that we will be able to welcome everyone tomorrow. Currently, there are two possible scenarios for Friday, July 18. We expect to have more clarity by tomorrow morning.”
The first scenario detailed a fully operating main stage, keeping the grounds operating as usual. The second, more complex scenario detailed how “DreamVille and the festival grounds will function as two separate areas on Friday to ensure the safety of all guests.”
Now, at 12:13 local time on July 18th, the festival announced, “We are ready for you!” It explained, “Our teams are working day and night, with heart and soul, to turn the impossible into reality: Tomorrowland Belgium 2025 will open doors at 14:00.”
The statement continued, “An alternative setup for the beloved Mainstage is planned to open at 16:00, pending any last-minute changes. All artists will perform as scheduled on all other stages from 14:00.”
It closed with the optimistic promise that “Tomorrowland will unite, stronger than ever!”
Alok, Martin Garrix, Axwell, Anyma, Charlotte de Witte, Nicky Romero, Fisher and David Guetta are a selection of the names due to play The Orbyz this weekend.
