Tomorrowland will not be cancelled despite huge fire to main stage

Tomorrowland organisers have announced that the Belgian electronic music festival will continue as planned despite the massive fire that engulfed its main stage.

The blaze started in the late afternoon of July 16th. While festival employees were on the grounds at the time of the fire, no spectators were allowed in when the incident occurred, and there have been no injuries as a result.

Now, in a statement on their Instagram, authorities have said that they plan to go on with both weekends as planned, stating, “We can announce that DreamVille (campsite) will open tomorrow (Thursday, July 17) as planned and will be ready for all DreamVille visitors. All Global Journey activities in Brussels and Antwerp will take place as planned.”

Though there have yet to be any announcements concerning the acts that are scheduled to appear on the main stage, the organisers have said that their primary concern has been controlling the fires and trying to find solutions for the weekend, as fans are set to pile in starting July 17th.

Within an hour of the fixture catching fire, firefighters were already on the scene attempting to quell the flames. While they had advised all local residents to shelter from the smoke by keeping all windows and doors shut, they had said the fire wasn’t toxic.

In the footage posted on social media, fireworks were heard as the massive fixture was reduced to embers. However, there has been no explanation about how the fire was caused.

Rescue workers said they were primarily concerned with preventing the fires from spreading to a nearby wooded area. The fire department has also confirmed that while many different fires have spread to other areas, they have been able to put them out without many complications.

This comes less than 48 hours before Tomorrowland was supposed to start. Known as one of the biggest festivals in the world for electronic music, some of the biggest names in the genre were scheduled to perform at the festival, including the likes of Swedish House Mafia and David Guetta. Though the festival had put out a schedule as to when each act was supposed to perform, there has been no word on when or where those scheduled for the main stage will be performing.
