Todd Phillips releases new images of ‘Joker: Folie À Deux’
When Joaquin Phoenix initially decided to take on the challenge of playing the Joker, some fans had their reservations. However, the acclaimed actor proved his talents in Todd Phillips’ 2019 interpretation of the popular character’s complex mythology.
Building on the cinematic universe Phillips created, the two are currently working on a sequel titled Joker: Folie À Deux. Set to be released in 2024, it’s a musical which is going to star Lady Gaga as none other than Harley Quinn.
According to Phillips, a sequel was a part of the conversation since the production of the first film. However, the specifics of the character arc hadn’t really been realised at that point.
Phillips told Empire: “Joaquin and I would constantly talk about a sequel on set… We’ve never seriously discussed it and still haven’t because we really always envisioned it as its own standalone thing.”
The filmmaker added: “Is our character a criminal mastermind? He’s certainly not that yet in our movie… That’s exactly the kind of stuff we’d talk about, like, the next one could be about him becoming that, even without Batman.”
Undoubtedly among the most anticipated releases of the next year, Joker: Folie À Deux has already started garnering attention on social media. Phillips decided to add to the hype by posting new images from the production on Instagram.
