The Rolling Stones are in the studio working on a new album

The Rolling Stones are currently in the studio working on a new album, according to a new report.

It was initially speculated that The Rolling Stones were set to spend this summer on a huge stadium tour across the UK and Europe before deciding to scrap those plans, which freed their schedule to allow the rock icons to return to the studio.

According to The Sun, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood, and Steve Jordan have been busy working on a follow-up to 2023’s Hackney Diamonds since April.

The report then states The Rolling Stones have made 13 songs for the record so far at Metropolis Studios in West London and are currently in discussions with their label over a potential release date.

A source told the publication: “Originally, the plan was for them to bring their huge US tour to the UK and Europe this summer but promoters couldn’t get the dates to work. Instead the Stones decided to get back into the studio and put down their next album. It’s massive for their fans who didn’t get a chance to see them live this year.”

It’s also believed producer Andrew Watt, who was at the helm for Hackney Diamonds, has returned to the production desk for the upcoming record.

Hackney Diamonds was The Rolling Stones’ first album of original material since A Bigger Bang in 2005, but the band previously maintained that there wouldn’t be another 18-year wait between albums.

Ahead of the release of Hackney Diamonds, Jagger told the New York Times: “I don’t think it’s the last Rolling Stones album. We’ve got almost three-quarters through the next one.”

Meanwhile, on a similar note, Richards told SiriusXM about the prospect of another new album: “There’s plenty more stuff left over from Hackney Diamonds to work on.”

“There’ll always be another one until we drop. We can put our feet up for a little bit, but you know,” Richards added of the band’s philosophy. “You’re into this thing all the way. This is what we do. We’ve gotta see this Rolling Stones through.”

The Rolling Stones have not performed live since their US tour wrapped up in July 2024. While a UK and European tour was suggested for this year, in January, The Times confirmed the band had abandoned plans, which could be linked to their new album.

The report claimed “several multiple-date options were presented to the band’s members” who opted against the deals on the table due to “complications with venues and travel as well as existing commitments”.

The Rolling Stones are yet to comment on reports of a new album.
