The Libertines share new single ‘Oh Shit’

British indie pioneers, The Libertines, have released the new single ‘Oh Shit’ as they gear up for the release of their fourth album.

An anthem that echoes the current cost of living crisis and the brink of oblivion that humanity finds itself on, ‘Oh Shit’ is the fourth single from the band’s hotly anticipated new album, All Quiet on the Eastern Esplanade, which arrives on April 5th.

Written by the quartet’s songwriting partnership of Carl Bârat and Peter Doherty, ‘Oh Shit’ follows ‘Shiver’, as well as previous singles ‘Night of the Hunter’ and ‘Run, Run, Run’ which both arrived late last year. It continues to promote excitement for their first album in nearly a decade. Notably, it will be their fourth, following Anthems For Doomed Youth in 2015.

Bârat and Doherty started work on All Quiet on the Eastern Esplanade in Geejam in Port Antonio, Jamaica. Following the successful initial sessions, they reconvened with bassist John Hassall and drummer Gary Powell at The Albion Rooms in Margate with producer Dimitri Tikovoï.

Discussing the process, Doherty said: “We really came together as a band. It was a moment of rare peace and unity, with all the members contributing.”

Bârat also believes the new album is the one The Libertines have always been moving towards: “Our first record was born out of panic, and disbelief that we were actually allowed to be in a studio; the second was born of total strife and misery; the third was born of complexity; this one feels like we were all actually in the same place, at the same speed, and we really connected.”

Additionally, The Libertines are heading out on a UK and Ireland tour later this year, which includes three shows at The Roundhouse in London.
