The Libertines release new single ‘Shiver’
The Libertines have released the new single ‘Shiver’, as they continue to tease their upcoming album All Quiet On The Eastern Esplanade. The release is filled with the band’s trademark raw energy and poetic lyricism that is associated with the group.
‘Shiver’ was co-written by Peter Doherty and Carl Bârat. “Peter had a song and I had a song, and we mashed them up and did it collaboratively,” Bârat reflected on the track’s genesis.
“I would probably find it difficult to work out who did what,” commented Doherty, “because we were both there the whole time through its creation. It should really be called ‘The Last Dream Of Every Dying Soldier’, but everyone liked the title ‘Shiver’.”
Along with the new single comes a new music video. The film is shot in black and white and shows the band attending a seaside funeral. Alongside the band in the clip are several characters, all of whom will make an appearance on the new album.
The video follows the same theme as those before, ‘Run, Run, Run’ and ‘Night Of The Hunter’, as they were all shot in Margate and feature the seaside. It was directed by the acclaimed Alex Brown.
The new album will be released on March 8th, both online and in physical format. In the run-up to its release, The Libertines are going around the UK playing several club shows.
Bârat previously said of the upcoming LP: “Our first record was born out of panic, and disbelief that we were actually allowed to be in a studio; the second was born of total strife and misery; the third was born of complexity; this one feels like we were all actually in the same place, at the same speed, and we really connected.”
