Tame Impala share huge comeback single, ‘End of Summer’

Tame Impala have finally returned after five years away with their seven-minute new single, ‘End of Summer’.

The huge dance track marks the start of a new era for Tame Impala after Kevin Parker has spent the past few weeks teasing fans about new material from the outfit. Now, the thrilling ‘End of Summer’ is here, also marking Tame Impala’s first song on their new home, Columbia Records.

Per press materials, the acid-house track is the start of Tame Impala’s transition into becoming a “kind of future primitive rave act”, which has occupied part of their DNA since 2015’s Currents but now looks set to be a more prominent element of their sound than ever before.

For the new track, which feels like a natural evolution for Tame Impala, Parker has unveiled a nine-minute video directed by Julian Klincewicz.

Those fortunate enough to watch Parker perform a DJ set at Barcelona’s Primavera Sound in June will already be familiar with ‘End of Summer’, which he previewed during his guest spot behind the decks.

Before playing the track, he told the crowd: “You guys want to hear a new song? You want to hear a new Tame Impala song? You’re going to be the first ones to hear it, you realise? There’s no going back from this point on, you realise?”

Since then, Tame Impala has continued to ramp up excitement, with Parker sharing a series of cryptic Instagram posts, including one featuring the caption “Been busy.”

Additionally, last week, Tame Impala’s website suggested that change was in the air, with a cryptic update suddenly appearing. Although the website interface itself has been altered, the most interesting aspect was found in the page’s source code, where the message “iwaitedtiltheendofsummerandiranoutoftime” could be found, which we now know was a teaser for ‘End of Summer’.
