Tame Impala tease return with new website and cryptic post

Tame Impala has teased a return to music with a new website and social media post, five years on from their previous album, The Slow Rush, in 2020.

Fans had been eagerly anticipating new music from Kevin Parker’s creative brainchild, Tame Impala, for some time, but he has now definitively made clear that a new era should be arriving shortly.

Firstly, taking to Instagram, Parker posted a series of photos, including of him in the studio, a progress chart of a track list – many marked with the word ‘done’ beside them – and a shot of him posing with his wife Sophie Lawrence, who is currently pregnant with their second child. Fittingly, he captioned the post simply with the words “Been busy.”

Further to his social media post, Tame Impala’s website also suggested that change was in the air, with a cryptic update suddenly appearing. Although the website interface itself has been altered, the most interesting aspect was found in the page’s source code, where the message “iwaitedtiltheendofsummerandiranoutoftime” could be found.

All of this collectively heightens suspicion that Tame Impala could be ready to drop new music in the imminent future, with Parker himself having already premiered an unheard track at a surprise DJ set in Barcelona last month.

Although the wheels of Parker’s Tame Impala project have not been in motion for some time, he has not fully eschewed the music industry as a whole, having been part of numerous collaborations with the likes of Diana Ross, Gorillaz, and Justice, winning a Grammy Award for the latter’s song ‘Neverender’ earlier this year.

With hints of Parker’s long-awaited next album finally arriving, it confirms comments the musician made to The Guardian this time last year when he said: “All I can say is that I’m working on it. It’s not finished yet, but I think it’ll be there soon.”
