Watch Kevin Parker debut a new Tame Impala song at DJ set
This weekend, Primavera Sound brought together the biggest names in music for a bustling festival in Barcelona that saw many first performances and live exclusives for the lucky crowds at the event and around the city. The audience at Kevin Parker’s DJ set got lucky indeed as he performed a brand new Tame Impala track.
Neither Tame Impala nor Kevin Parker were on the lineup for Primavera, despite this year’s billing being an incredibly powerful one, headlined by Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter and the revival of Charli xcx and Troye Sivan’s Sweat tour. Other standout sets came from CMAT, Fontaines DC, HAIM and LCD Soundsystem.
However, on the Friday of the festival, June 6th, Parker made a surprise appearance at the event. He was already in Spain for a string of dates, so many an unannounced stop off at the festival.
It was the following day, though, when fans got lucky. On Saturday, June 7th, Parker played a DJ set at Nitsa Club for the festival goers after the site hit curfew. To the revellers, he asked, “Er, you guys wanna hear a new song?”
He hyped them up by adding, “You want to hear a new Tame Impala song? You’re going to be the first ones to hear it, you realise. There’s no going back from this point on. Alright, let’s do it. Get comfortable,” before playing the unreleased song.
The track remains unnamed but featured heavier electro beats that have been heard from the project for a long time. Paired with Parker’s signature vocals and some more atmospheric details like keys, it’s sounding good.
It’s been a long time since we’ve had any new Tame Impala music. Parker has featured on a handful of tracks and has played a part in producing other releases, but the last Tame Impala release was back in 2020 with The Slow Rush, meaning a new album is certainly due and this new track might be the first taste of it.
