“Definitely better”: the two fraught years LCD Soundsystem spent making their masterpiece
Painstaking.

LCD Soundsystem are an American rock and electronic band formed in Brooklyn, New York, in 2002 by musician, producer and DFA Records co-founder James Murphy.
Blending dance-punk, indie rock, electronic music, post-punk and disco, the band became one of the defining acts of 21st-century alternative music through their intelligent songwriting, infectious grooves and emotionally resonant lyrics. Following the release of acclaimed albums including ‘Sound of Silver’, ‘This Is Happening’ and ‘American Dream’, LCD Soundsystem developed a reputation for exhilarating live performances and Murphy’s witty, self-aware observations on ageing, culture and modern life.
Although the band famously announced its farewell in 2011 before reuniting in 2016, LCD Soundsystem remain one of the most influential and celebrated acts in contemporary indie and electronic music.
“This sound represents my time in New York.”
A different kind of musical heartbeat.
Is new music on the horizon too?
‘It’s The Hope That Kills You’ is out now.
‘Oh Baby’ soundtracked the advert.
A classic 2005 case of uber-contrarianism.
