More About Funk

Funk is a genre that originated in the United States during the 1960s, characterised by infectious grooves, syncopated rhythms, prominent basslines and an emphasis on the rhythmic interplay between instruments.
Among the most influential funk artists are James Brown, Parliament-Funkadelic, Sly and the Family Stone, The Meters, Curtis Mayfield, Bootsy Collins, Earth, Wind & Fire and Ohio Players.
Funk laid the foundations for disco, hip-hop, contemporary R&B and many forms of pop music, with its rhythmic innovations, bass-driven grooves and sampling culture continuing to influence artists around the world.
