Charlie Watts was an English drummer best known as the longtime drummer of The Rolling Stones. Joining the band in 1963, Watts became the rhythmic backbone of one of the most successful and influential rock groups in history.
His understated, jazz-influenced playing contrasted with the band’s energetic performances, earning widespread admiration for its precision, swing and musical restraint.
Beyond his work with The Rolling Stones, Watts pursued his lifelong passion for jazz through numerous side projects, including the Charlie Watts Quintet and the ABC&D of Boogie Woogie.
Despite the excesses often associated with rock stardom, he maintained a reputation for humility, elegance and professionalism. Watts’ remarkable career and distinctive drumming style secured his place among the greatest drummers in rock history.
