Before becoming a filmmaker, Cameron Crowe was a teenage journalist for Rolling Stone, interviewing artists including Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, Bob Dylan and the Eagles while still in his teens. Crowe's semi-autobiographical film Almost Famous was inspired by his experiences touring with rock bands as a young Rolling Stone writer and is widely regarded as one of the greatest films ever made about music journalism. His book Fast Times at Ridgemont High was based on the year he spent undercover as a high school student researching American teenage life. It was later adapted into the classic 1982 film, for which Crowe wrote the screenplay.
