The British Film Institute (BFI) is the United Kingdom’s leading organisation for film, television and the moving image. Founded in 1933, the BFI is dedicated to preserving, promoting and developing screen culture through education, film preservation, funding, publishing and public engagement.
It maintains one of the world’s largest film and television archives through the BFI National Archive, operates BFI Southbank in London and organises the annual BFI London Film Festival and BFI Flare: London LGBTQIA+ Film Festival. As the UK government’s lead body for film, the BFI plays a central role in supporting British filmmaking while celebrating cinema from around the world.
