Arcade Fire are a Canadian indie rock band formed in Montreal, Quebec, in 2001. Founded by Win Butler and Régine Chassagne, the group became one of the defining bands of 21st-century alternative music through their ambitious songwriting, orchestral arrangements and emotionally charged live performances.
Their breakthrough album, ‘Funeral’, is widely regarded as one of the greatest indie rock records of all time, while subsequent releases including ‘Neon Bible’, ‘The Suburbs’, ‘Reflektor’ and ‘WE’ showcased a willingness to explore art rock, dance music and electronic influences. Arcade Fire became the first independent band in years to win the Grammy Award for Album of the Year with ‘The Suburbs’ in 2011.
In recent years, the band’s legacy has been affected by allegations of sexual misconduct made against Win Butler in 2022, which he denied were non-consensual, stating that all relationships were consensual.
