System of a Down and Queens of the Stone Age kick off European tour in Stockholm: Here’s everything both bands played

System of a Down have kicked off the European leg of their tour alongside rock legends Queens of the Stone Age.

The heavy metal rockers and the California band were a potent combination to fans who headed to the first night at the Strawberry Arena in Solna, Sweden, before System of a Down head off on the rest of their European stadium run.

This includes huge dates spanning France, Italy, Germany, and Poland which take place over the course of the coming weeks, as well as two nights at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London on July 13th and 15th.

As such, the first night in Sweden was full of expectation, with Josh Homme’s group kicking off proceedings with a blistering set of fan favourites, contrasted with obscure deep cuts.

Queens of the Stone Age caught fans off-guard from the very opening number of their 12-song set, playing ‘Run, Pig, Run’ from Era Vulgaris, which had not been heard live since 2008.

Thereafter, they followed with a range of tunes spanning different chapters in the band’s history, such as ‘My God is the Sun’, ‘Feel Good Hit of the Summer’, and ‘The Fun Machine Took a Shit and Died’, the latter of which served as another deep cut as it had not been played live since 2014.

Finishing things off with fan favourite ‘Song for the Dead’, it is not known whether Queens of the Stone Age will continue changing up their roster of obscure tracks as the tour goes on.

For the main event, System of a Down delivered a pounding and extensive 29-song setlist, which opened with the introduction to ‘Soldier Side’ and closed with their iconic 1998 breakout song, ‘Sugar’.

In between, they filled the show with an era-spanning range of tunes, including ‘B.Y.O.B’ from 2005’s Mesmerize, their 2020 comeback single ‘Genocidal Humanoidz’, the Toxicity hit ‘Chop Suey!’, and the 1998 song ‘War?’.

However, given that System of a Down haven’t released any new albums since Hypnotize in 2005, it’s likely that fans would enjoy hearing any selection of the band’s throwback heavy metal songs.
