Watch Sting and Billy Joel perform together in Tampa, Florida
This past weekend saw Billy Joel co-headline a show alongside Police frontman Sting at a sold-out concert in Florida’s Raymond James Stadium – home of American football team Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The pair have performed together at various points throughout their careers, but the Tampa show marked the first time the musicians had co-headlined a gig.
Both songwriters were due to treat audiences to a selection of their many hits from throughout the years, but fans were also witness to some unexpected duets between the pair.
Opening the show with The Police’s 1981 track ‘Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic’, Sting surprised the audience by bringing out Joel to duet the track with. Numerous fan-filmed videos of the performance have been making the rounds since the unexpected collaboration, though reportedly, many fans missed it due to being stuck in traffic outside the stadium.
Luckily, for those who found themselves victims of Florida’s car-centric town-planning, Joel and Sting returned for another duet later on in the show, performing the 1986 classic ‘Big Man on Mulberry Street’.
Sting and Billy Joel are set to share the stage again at shows later in the year as part of Joel’s ongoing tour. Elsewhere on the tour, Joel will co-headline with the likes of Stevie Nicks and Rod Stewart. The tour is due to conclude with a co-headline set with Sting at Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium.
2024 is already proving to be a big year for Joel, who will perform his 150th Madison Square Gardens show in July following his residency. February saw the ‘Piano Man’ singer release ‘Turn the Lights Back On’, his first single in nearly two decades. The track proved popular, earning Joel his first charting single since 1997.
