St Vincent shares new Spanish-language song ‘El Mero Cero’

St Vincent, also known as Annie Clark, has shared the third single and final from her upcoming album Todos Nacen Gritando. The record is a Spanish-language version of her most recent offering, All Born Screaming, which arrived earlier this year.

The new single, ‘El Mero Cero’, is a Spanish-language version of ‘Big Time Nothing’, which St Vincent released as the third single from All Born Screaming. Over swerving synths and bass, Clark sings about looking inwards and finding nothing inside.

‘El Mero Cero’ is the third single St Vincent has released ahead of Todos Nacen Gritando. The first, ‘Hombre Roto’, was a Spanish reimagining of ‘Broken Man’, while ‘Pulga’ provided a new version of ‘Flea’. The Spanish singles were released in the exact same order as All Born Screaming.

Far Out awarded All Born Screaming three-and-a-half stars, stating, “Forgoing personas and external producers, All Born Screaming is St. Vincent in her purest form. It’s just a shame that, sometimes, that form is shrouded in busy soundscapes and straightforward rock.”

Last week, Clark picked up a number of Grammy nominations for her work on All Born Screaming. The record received a nomination in the ‘Best Alternative Album’ category, going up against Brittany Howard, Clairo, Kim Gordon, and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.

The lead single, ‘Broken Man’, received nods in the ‘Best Rock Performance’ and ‘Best Rock Song’ categories, and Idles, Green Day, and Pearl Jam joined it. ‘Flea’ also earned Clark a nomination for ‘Best Alternative Music Performance’, competing against the likes of Irish rockers Fontaines DC and Cage the Elephant.

Alongside the release of ‘El Mero Cero’, Clark has announced a slew of new tour dates for next spring. After kicking things off in Dallas on April 6th, St Vincent will take the All Born Screaming tour to stages across the United States in Austin, Houston, New Orleans, Atlanta, Charlottesville, Pittsburgh, and New Haven.

Australian psych outfit Glass Beams will support Clark on the first three dates of the tour, while Wallice will join her for the remaining dates.

St Vincent is also set to share the stage with some huge artists next year. She has a couple of dates lined up alongside pop giant Olivia Rodrigo next spring, with shows at Estadio Couto Pereira in Brazil and Estadio GNP Seguros in Mexico. Clark will also join fellow Grammy nominee Nick Cave on stage in April at the Agganis Arena in Boston and the Barclays Center in New York.

Todos Nacen Gritando, St Vincent’s first full Spanish album, is out on Friday, November 15th.
