Sinéad O’Connor’s cause of death revealed

The late Irish singer-songwriter Sinéad O’Connor is ruled to have died from natural causes, according to the London Inner South Coroner’s Court.

O’Connor’s death was confirmed by the Metropolitan Police on July 26th after they discovered her unresponsive at her residence in London. Although her passing wasn’t treated as suspicious, an autopsy was conducted, which has now concluded.

In a statement, the Metropolitan Police previously said: “Police were called at 11.18am on Wednesday 26 July to reports of an unresponsive woman at a residential address in the SE24 area. Officers attended. A 56-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.”

The musician had moved back to the English capital shortly before her death. O’Connor had also spoken publicly about her plans to complete a new album, marking her first LP since 2014’s I’m Not Bossy, I’m the Boss . She wrote on Twitter in July: “Hi All, recently moved back to London after 23 years absence. Very happy to be home : ) Soon finishing my album. Release early next year : )”.

O’Connor added: “Hopefully Touring Australia and New Zealand toward end 2024. Europe, USA and other territories beginning early 2025 : ) The Bitch Is Back”.

In September, O’Connor’s previously unreleased track ‘The Magdalene Song’ played during the finale of the BBC series The Woman In The Wall. The song was produced by David Holmes, who was also working on an album titled No Veteran Dies Alone with O’Connor before her death. As of yet, there have been no further updates regarding a possible posthumous release.

Following O’Connor’s funeral in Ireland last year, her family released a statement thanking the singer’s fans for expressing their “outpouring of love” after her death. “The children of Sinéad, together with Sinéad’s extended family, wish to thank the countless kind people who sympathised and offered condolences on Sinéad’s recent passing,” the message read.

Meanwhile, details of a tribute concert in New York for O’Connor and The Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan were recently announced. The show is set to take place on March 20th at Carnegie Hall, featuring artists such as the Dropkick Murphys, Cat Power, David Gray, Amanda Palmer, and The Mountain Goats.
