Safdie brothers deny they are working with Armie Hammer after he shares fake movie poster
Actor Armie Hammer recently shared an Instagram post teasing a collaboration with the famous directing duo, the Safdie brothers. Only, there is no collaboration, and the brothers have confirmed the project is non-existent.
On May 5th, Hammer shared a movie poster on his Instagram. The poster teased a project called Persona Non Grata, directed by Josh and Benny Safdie, the duo behind Uncut Gems. “Fall 2026,” the caption read.
Despite the evidence of collaboration, representatives for both Benny and Josh have since declared the project is fake.
Hammer previously left Hollywood in 2021 following sexual assault and cannibalism allegations, though he denied all of the criminal accusations made against him. In 2023, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office confirmed it would be pursuing the claims made against him by a woman named Effie. Several other women also made allegations against Hammer, but none have resulted in any criminal charges.
He revealed on a podcast at the beginning of 2025 that he was finally in the position “to turn jobs down” again. Speaking to Louis Theroux a little later, Hammer again denied the cannibalism allegations, putting it down to “digitally altered evidence,” though he did note his behaviour with some women was unacceptable. “I’m very quick to admit that I was selfish, and inconsiderate, and an asshole, and a cad, and I used people to make me feel better,” he told Theroux.
Despite selling his car to get by last year due to the lack of jobs as a result of the controversy, the actor returned to acting soon thereafter to star opposite William H Macy in the Western feature Frontier Crucible. He will also appear in Uwe Boll’s Citizen Vigilante.
The original Instagram post has now been taken down, and the Call Me By Your Name actor has not acknowledged it further.
