Ronnie Wood honours Brian Wilson on new Rolling Stones album: “I was so moved that day”
Ronnie Wood has revealed that he honoured the late Brian Wilson on the new Rolling Stones album, Foreign Tongues.
Wilson sadly died on June 11th, 2025, aged 82. The Beach Boys icon, responsible for creating timeless classics like ‘God Only Knows’ and ‘Good Vibrations’, was later ruled to have passed away following a respiratory arrest.
Now, during an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Wood explained how he learned of Wilson’s passing while in the studio working on Foreign Tongues and channelled the energy into his music.
While discussing the track ‘Back In Your Life’, Wood explained that he recorded a nine-minute guitar solo for the song, which was later cut down to four or five minutes for the final studio version.
He elaborated, “I’ll tell you what, I was so moved that day, and disappointed and sad, I had so much feeling because Brian Wilson died that day. I’ll never forget.”
“That week Sly Stone died too, I thought, ‘Oh, no. It’s so sad’. It come out through my guitar, the feeling, just one take. I didn’t do that, the guitar played itself,” Wood emotionally added.
Later in the conversation, Wood also discussed his art, sharing, “I’m lucky enough to do a solo thing with the painting, then be part of a band to express musically, it’s such a gift to be able to do both.”
Although the tracklist for Foreign Tongues is yet to be shared, Fallon revealed to his audience that it includes a cover of Amy Winehouse’s ‘You Know I’m No Good’, which led to him and Wood delivering a brief rendition of the classic track.
Wood’s appearance on Fallon comes a day after Mick Jagger made an appearance on the show earlier this week in a surreal Real People Fake Arms sketch, which saw him play a jewellery shop owner while wearing mannequin arms.
The listings on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon previously had Jagger on the sofa on last night’s episode, and Richards was due to appear tonight (May 8th), with Wood due to appear next week.
However, there has since been a change, and Richards’ appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon is no longer listed. While unconfirmed, it appears that the interview with Jagger will now air tonight.
