Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2025: Oasis, The White Stripes and Mariah Carey among nominees
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced the longlist of 2025 nominees, which includes Oasis, The White Stripes, and Mariah Carey.
The full list of nominees are Bad Company, The Black Crowes, Mariah Carey; early rock n’ roll hitmaker Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Billy Idol, Joy Division/New Order, Cyndi Lauper, Maná, Oasis, OutKast, Phish, Soundgarden and The White Stripes.
Eight of the nominees on the 2025 longlist have never appeared on the ballot before. Those acts are Bad Company, The Black Crowes, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Billy Idol, Maná, OutKast and Phish.
To qualify for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, it must be 25 years after the release of their first commercial recording. While the 2025 list features eight first-time nominees, all of those artists have been eligible in previous years.
Meanwhile, The White Stripes were first nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2023, their first eligible year. However, despite their eligibility, they were overlooked in 2024.
Last year, the class of 2024 at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame featured Ozzy Osbourne, Cher, Mary J Blige, Dave Matthews Band, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Kool & The Gang and A Tribe Called Quest.
Oasis were nominated for induction in 2024, but didn’t make the final cut. After they were included on the longlist last year, the band’s frontman Liam Gallagher took to X, formerly Twitter, to write: “Fuck the Rock n Roll hall of fame its full of BUMBACLARTS LG x”.
Additionally, in an interview with The Sunday Times, the singer discussed his disapproval of the list of nominees, stating: “As much as I love Mariah Carey and all that, I want to say: do me a favour and fuck off. It’s like putting me in the rap hall of fame, and I don’t want to be part of anything that mentally disturbed.”
For the second year running, Oasis and Mariah Carey are nominated again for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2025.
Once members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame have voted on the class of 2025, an announcement will be made in April regarding the inductions. Voting is carried out by a panel of 1,200 figures from the music industry, as well as a fan vote which contributes to the final decision. It’s unconfirmed how many of the nominees will make it through to the next stage, but it’ll likely be around half.
