Rob Reiner and wife Michele’s official cause of death confirmed

The official cause of death for director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer, Reiner, has been confirmed by authorities.

The couple, who had been married since 1989, were discovered dead on December 14th at their family home in Brentwood, California.

Their son, Nick, aged 32, was taken into custody six hours after their bodies were found and has since been charged with fatally stabbing both of his parents.

His official charge list is two counts of murder with the special circumstance allegation of multiple murders, as well as facing a special allegation that he personally used a dangerous and deadly weapon, which in this case, is alleged to be a knife.

Now, the Los Angeles Medical Examiner announced in a statement on December 17th that Reiner and Michele both died from “multiple sharp force injuries”. It has also been confirmed the case is being treated as a double homicide.

After not being medically cleared to appear in court on December 16th, Nick did appear for the first time on December 17th.

During the hearing, he did not enter a plea, and could be heard but not seen by those in the courtroom. Per the Associated Press, he was in shackles and wore a padded suicide prevention smock. His only words were, “Yes, your honor.”

His arraignment date has been postponed until January 7th.

On December 16th, Rob and Michele’s children, Jake and Romy, issued a statement for the first time since their parents were killed, stating, “Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day. The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.”

They also thanked people for expressing support, adding, “We are grateful for the outpouring of condolences, kindness, and support we have received not only from family and friends but people from all walks of life.”

Jake and Romy concluded by pleading for privacy during this unimaginably difficult time, writing, “We now ask for respect and privacy, for speculation to be tempered with compassion and humanity, and for our parents to be remembered for the incredible lives they lived and the love they gave.”
