Nick Reiner not medically cleared to appear in court after arrest

Nick Reiner, the son of Rob Reiner, and his wife, Michele, has not been medically cleared to appear in court.

Reiner, aged 78, and his wife, Michele, aged 68, were found dead at their home in Brentwood, Los Angeles, on December 14th, reportedly with injuries consistent with a knife attack.

On December 15th, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed the couple’s son, Nick, had been arrested in connection with their deaths and is currently being held without bail.

He was due to appear at the Superior Court of Los Angeles County on December 16th, but this will no longer be the case.

According to the New York Times, his lawyer, Alan Jackson, who has previously defended Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey in court, told reporters that “his client had not been medically cleared to be transferred from the jail to the courthouse”.

Per CNN, Jackson also told those outside the courthouse that it will be assessed on a “day to day” basis whether Reiner is cleared to be in court. He did not provide a reason as to why Reiner was not cleared on December 16th.

Since Reiner was arrested on December 14th, he has been held in custody.

Rob and Michele’s deaths were announced by their wider family in a heartbreaking statement, which reads, “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner.”

They added: “We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”

On Jimmy Kimmel Live! on December 15th, Michelle Obama paid tribute to Rob and Michele, as well as revealing that they had been due to see the Obama family on the night of their deaths. She told the late-night host, “Rob and Michele Reiner are some of the most decent, courageous people you ever want to know.”
