Obama family reveal they were due to see Rob Reiner on the night that he died

Michelle Obama has revealed that Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, were due to meet the Obama family on the night of their tragic death.

Tragically, Reiner, aged 78, and his wife, Michele, aged 68, were found dead at their home in Brentwood, Los Angeles, on December 14th, reportedly with injuries consistent with a knife attack. They were identified by their daughter, Romy.

On December 15th, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed the couple’s son, Nick Reiner, has been charged with murder and that his bail has been set at $4 million.

Later that day, Michelle Obama, who was a close personal friend of the Reiner family, made a pre-planned appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, and emotionally opened up about the tragic loss of the couple.

“We were supposed to be seeing them that night, last night,” she told the late-night host, and also explained that “we’ve known them for many, many years”.

Michelle then seemingly criticised Donald Trump for his distasteful comments on Reiner’s death, which he blamed on the director having “Trump derangement syndrome”, telling Kimmel, “Let me just say this. Unlike some people, Rob and Michele Reiner are some of the most decent, courageous people you ever want to know.”

Obama continued, “They are not deranged or crazed. What they have always been are passionate people who, in a time when there’s not a lot of courage going on, they were the kind of people who were ready to put their actions behind what they cared about.”

She passionately concluded, “And they cared about their family. And they cared about this country. And they cared about fairness and equity. And that is the truth. I DO know them.”

Additionally, Barack Obama released a heartfelt statement regarding the death of the Reiners on behalf of his family, which reads, “Michelle and I are heartbroken by the tragic passing of Rob Reiner and his beloved wife, Michele. Rob’s achievements in film and television gave us some of our most cherished stories on screen.”

Barack continued, “But beneath all of the stories he produced was a deep belief in the goodness of people—and a lifelong commitment to putting that belief into action. Together, he and his wife lived lives defined by purpose. They will be remembered for the values they championed and the countless people they inspired. We send our deepest condolences to all who loved them.”

Jimmy Kimmel also used his late-night show to pay homage to the late Reiner and condemned Trump for his “hateful” comments about the filmmaker.
