Donald Trump claims Rob Reiner’s death was caused by “Trump Derangement Syndrome”
Donald Trump has passed comment on the death of iconic Hollywood director Rob Reiner, saying he was “tortured and struggling” and that his death was caused by his hatred of the president.
Reiner and his wife, Michele, were tragically found dead at their home in the Brentwood neighbourhood of Los Angeles on December 14th. The Los Angeles Police Department are currently investigating the deaths and is treating it as an “apparent homicide”.
Dozens of tributes have flooded in for the Reiner couple across Hollywood and the political sphere, especially for the Spinal Tap director, who was a prominent Democratic supporter.
However, the US president used this as an opportunity to criticise Reiner over his political leanings rather than pay tribute to his life and legacy.
Writing on his Truth Social platform, Trump said: “A very sad thing happened last night in Hollywood. Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away, together with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he caused others.”
The president claimed this was “through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS.”
Trump also added: “He was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J Trump.”
The White House has not yet responded to Trump’s comments, but they come in comparison to a number of other political tributes which have been paid to Reiner, including from former President Barack Obama and California Governor Gavin Newsom.
The former wrote on X that he and his wife were “heartbroken” by the couple’s deaths, saying in part: “Rob’s achievements in film and television gave us some of our most cherished stories on screen. But beneath all of the stories he produced was a deep belief in the goodness of people — and a lifelong commitment to putting that belief into action.”
The Los Angeles Police Department have not yet offered any updates on the proceedings of their investigation, but earlier stated that they are not looking for any suspects in relation to the deaths and there is no threat to the wider public.
