Rob Reiner’s children, Jake and Romy, break silence on murder of parents: “Horrific and devastating”
Jake and Romy Reiner, children of acclaimed director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, have officially spoken out following the murder of the couple.
The couple were found stabbed to death in their home on December 14th. Their son, Nick, was then taken into custody by police and was later officially charged with the murder of his parents.
In a statement given to People, Jake and Romy have expressed their profound sadness of the loss of their parents, saying, “Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day. The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.”
Reiner had first met his wife, Michele, when working on the movie When Harry Met Sally. After being introduced by cinematographer Barry Sonnefeld, Reiner’s connection with his partner eventually convinced him to rewrite the original ending of the movie, with the protagonists eventually getting together at the end of the film rather than going their separate ways.

In addition to sharing their grief, the children have also expressed their gratitude to the outpouring of tributes, saying, “We are grateful for the outpouring of condolences, kindness, and support we have received not only from family and friends but people from all walks of life.”
Their message continued, “We now ask for respect and privacy, for speculation to be tempered with compassion and humanity, and for our parents to be remembered for the incredible lives they lived and the love they gave.”
After Romy discovered her parents after the gruesome murder, Nick was taken into custody after being found on the University of Southern California campus. He was then booked without bail.
When asked for comment about the case, Los Angeles district attorney Nathan Hochman said, “Prosecuting cases involving family violence are some of the most challenging and heart-wrenching we face.”
On December 16th, he was officially charged with two counts of murder with a deadly weapon. While there has been no ruling yet for him, Los Angeles police officials say that he could face the death penalty if he is found guilty.
Hochman would go on to say that while no one has ruled out the death penalty, any use of that tactic is considered “extremely rare.”
Nick, who appeared in court for the first time on December 17th, is currently residing in Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles.
