Reddit clarify why Paul McCartney appeared to be banned: “No one would ban one of The Beatles”

Reddit has issued a statement with Far Out after Paul McCartney‘s account on the social media platform appeared to be banned over the weekend.

After performing the first of two sold-out shows at the Fonda Theater on March 27th, McCartney loaded up his Reddit account to post images from the event in his Subreddit in order to give fans memories from the show, which was a phone-free concert.

His official account wrote in r/Paul McCartney, “Hope you enjoyed the show last night. As last night was a phone-free experience we wanted to make sure you had some memories from the show to share with friends, family and loved ones.”

The Beatles legend then shared a Dropbox link, allowing fans to access a range of photographs that he encouraged them to share on social media, along with the hashtag, PaulRocksTheFonda.

However, the post was only active for a limited amount of time before it disappeared and McCartney’s account appeared to be banned on the platform.

Although several hours later, McCartney’s account was reinstated, his post in r/PaulMcCartney remained unavailable to view.

In an exclusive statement given to Far Out, a Reddit spokesperson clarified the situation, explaining why he had appeared to be banned, “There was a technical bug that made the account look banned, but no one would ban one of The Beatles.”

While a technical bug is a vague explanation, McCartney’s account already had an impressive level of karma that he’d built up on the site previously, which proved he was no imposter and was the real deal.

He had previously used the account in 2020 to participate in an AMA session with fans to promote McCartney III. However, it had been dormant since then, which may explain why a technical bug occurred after a long stretch of inactivity.

McCartney’s pair of concerts at the Fonda, which he wanted to share images of with his fans, marked his first shows of the year and coincided with the announcement of his new album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane, set for release on May 29th.

Material from the album, including the new single ‘Days We Left Behind’, was excluded from his setlists at both shows, which McCartney explained to those in attendance was due to his band not having learned the songs.

That may change in the future, however. French publication La Parisien recently reported that a European tour is in the works for later this year. They wrote, “According to our sources, there should be a tour following the album’s release, with concerts in Europe at the end of 2026.”
