Radiohead postpone two Copenhagen dates after Thom Yorke diagnosed with “extreme” infection

Radiohead have been forced to postpone two of their dates in Copenhagen as frontman Thom Yorke has been diagnosed with an “extreme” throat infection.

The band made the announcement via their social media channels, explaining that tonight’s (December 1st) show at Copenhagen’s Royal Arena has had to be postponed, as well as the show originally scheduled for December 2nd.

They said in a statement: “We are devastated to have to postpone these two shows at such short notice but Thom has been diagnosed with an extreme throat infection which has made it impossible for him to sing.”

Adding that “treatment is underway”, the band noted that they are “hopeful Thom will recover in time” for their other two shows set to take place in Copenhagen on December 4th and 5th, before they move on for a four-date stint in Berlin, starting on December 8th.

Despite the unfortunate news of the postponed gigs, Radiohead have been quick to reschedule the dates they are unable to perform, with them now set to go ahead on December 15th and 16th.

In their statement, they added: “We have been so blown away by the audience reactions on these dates and are loving being back on stage again; needless to say, we feel terrible that we have been forced to postpone these shows.”

It comes as Radiohead are in the midst of their first tour in some seven years, with the run of dates having kicked off in Madrid on November 4th. Their warbling setlist has been evolving over the course of the tour, with fans being treated to a selection of deep cuts as well as classics, including ‘Fake Plastic Trees’.

Following the band’s four night run of shows at the O2 Arena in London late last month, it was confirmed that they had broken an attendance record at the venue, with a total of 22,355 people at the final show.

Responding to this at the time, the arena’s Senior Programming Director, Christian D’Acuna, said: “It’s been a true honour to host them, and each night they played different set lists spanning their incredible back catalogue. These shows will be remembered for years to come.”
