‘Pride and Prejudice’ adds to supporting cast as filming begins in the UK
Filming for the new Netflix adaptation of Pride and Prejudice has begun in the UK, with a number of actors being announced as joining the ensemble cast.
Classic actor Rufus Sewell will be taking on the role of Mr Bennet, while Lydia Bennet will be played by Heartstopper’s Rhea Norwood, and Jamie Demetriou will be turning his hand to the part of Mr Collins.
They join a wider cast which includes the likes of Freya Mavor, Daryl McCormack, and Louis Partridge, alongside the leading roles being filled by Emma Corrin, Jack Lowden, and Olivia Colman, which had been previously announced.
The six-part Netflix series has begun filming in the UK. Author Dolly Alderton is the screenwriter, and Euros Lyn is the director.
Speaking of her involvement in the series earlier this year, Alderton said: “Once in a generation, a group of people get to retell this wonderful story and I feel very lucky that I get to be a part of it.”
She added: “Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is the blueprint for romantic comedy – it has been a joy to delve back into its pages to find both familiar and fresh ways of bringing this beloved book to life.”
As a faithful adaptation of the classic novel, the new series will bring Pride and Prejudice to the screen for the first time in a television format since the beloved adaptation from the BBC in 1995, which starred Jennifer Ehle and Colin Farrell in the lead roles of Elizabeth Bennet and Mr Darcy.
Further details, such as the trailer and release date for Pride and Prejudice on Netflix, have yet to be revealed.
