Netflix recruit Emma Corrin, Jack Lowden and Olivia Colman for ‘Pride and Prejudice’
A new adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic novel Pride and Prejudice is coming to Netflix, and now, the actors playing three key characters have just been revealed.
The iconic story, first published in 1813, has been adapted numerous times, although the most beloved are the BBC miniseries from 1995 and Joe Wright’s 2005 movie version. This new take on the novel will be released as a six-part miniseries, with Dolly Alderton penning the screenplay.
Alderton is best known for writing popular books like Ghosts and Everything I Know About Love, with the latter serving as her memoir about navigating adulthood, which she previously adapted for a BBC series.
Cherished heroine Elizabeth Bennet will be portrayed by Emma Corrin, who has previously starred in The Crown as Princess Diana, as well as appearing in period dramas like Lady Chatterley’s Lover and Nosferatu.
Meanwhile, their fellow The Crown alumni and Oscar-winner Olivia Colman will be playing the larger-than-life Mrs Bennet, Elizabeth’s concerned mother.
The only other cast member that has been announced is Jack Lowden, who will play Elizabeth’s love interest Mr Darcy. Lowden has previously appeared in Dunkirk, Mary Queen of Scots, and Slow Horses.
In a press release, Corrin (who is also executive-producing) revealed their excitement: “Playing Elizabeth Bennet is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. To be able to bring this iconic character to life, alongside Olivia and Jack, with Dolly’s phenomenal scripts, is truly the greatest honour. I can’t wait for a new generation to fall in love with this story all over again.”
Euros Lyn will be directing the series, which is yet to start production. His previous credits include Heartstopper – which starred Colman – and Happy Valley.
