Police issue statement after 12 arrests made at Oasis’ third Heaton Park show
Greater Manchester Police have issued a statement after 12 arrests were made at the latest Oasis concert at Heaton Park on July 16th.
Oasis’ celebratory reunion tour is currently on home soil in Manchester. They began the five-night residency on July 11th, played an additional show on July 12th, and returned on July 16th after a short break. They will again perform at Heaton Park on July 19th and July 20th.
Following the first concert at Heaton Park last week, police confirmed arrests of six individuals for offences ranging from suspicion of fraud, intent to sell cannabis, and drunk and disorderly behaviour.
Then, after the second concert, it was revealed that nine arrests were made. This included five men and a woman in three separate incidents who were arrested on suspicion of fraud after attempting to access the venue with fake accreditation. Meanwhile, a further arrest was made of a man on suspicion of assaulting a member of security staff, and two more men were held on suspicion of assault.
12 arrests were made at Heaton Park during the third concert, bringing the total to 27. This is a relatively low figure considering more than 200,000 people have attended the Manchester shows so far.
The arrests on July 16th were all men aged between 22 and 55. Four of these were held on suspicion of fraud, two for possession of class A drugs, and other suspected crimes include theft as well as a public order offence.
Assistant Chief Constable Matt Boyle is proud of Greater Manchester Police’s achievements, saying in a statement: “We are now three concerts into Oasis’ Manchester homecoming, and I am pleased that the overwhelming majority of people attending have enjoyed themselves sensibly and responsibly.”
Boyle continued: “Our officers have provided a continued high-visibility presence throughout the night, assisting our partners and event security in ensuring a smooth flow of operations, before, during, and after the concert.”
Patting his colleagues on the back further, Boyle added, “We have tackled any issues that have faced us – seizing unauthorised drones, arresting those attempting to illegally enter the event, and working with colleagues in the ambulance service to help those in need.”
The Assistant Chief Constable then praised the work of the neighbourhood teams that have been assisting Greater Manchester Police, saying they have “engaged with those who live around the event to better understand any problems they have raised, and provide the appropriate solutions where they can”.
Boyle concluded by looking ahead to the final two Oasis shows at Heaton Park this weekend, adding, “Ahead of the weekend, we advise all visitors to make sure they check all updates and information from ourselves and partners, including the Bee Network, Manchester City Council, and event organisers.”
Oasis return to Heaton Park on July 19th. As with all of the shows so far in Manchester, doors open at Heaton Park at 15:00 with music set to begin at 18:00 when Cast take to the stage. At 19:00, The Verve’s Richard Ashcroft will perform before Oasis deliver their catalogue of hits at 20:15.
