Police make arrests at Oasis gig as fans with no ticket found jumping fence with a ladder
Oasis fans without tickets were not so lucky last night, as a massive police presence at Heaton Park led to several arrests of those attempting to jump the fence around the area.
Oasis’ huge homecoming show saw them return to Heaton Park for the first time since 2009, playing five nights for a total of 400,000 fans. Despite the vast number, many fans were left disappointed as they couldn’t get their hands on tickets. As a result, some fans tried other means to see the Britpop brothers.
Manchester Evening News reported that an eyewitness told of around 50 people trying to rush “one of the internal entrances to the gig area. They said around 10 appeared to get in, but the rest were apprehended and turned away.”
Images from the area show one man seen in handcuffs, being escorted away by an officer. Another picture shows a police officer carrying away a ladder that ticketless fans tried to use to propel themselves into the restricted area. Police issued a dispersal order for Heaton Park and the area surrounding where 80,000 fans would congregate, meaning they could order crowds to leave the area even if they weren’t visibly causing trouble.
Police also confirmed arrests of six individuals for offences ranging from suspicion of fraud, intent to sell cannabis, and drunk and disorderly. Also, a number of zones violated air space restrictions, as a no-fly zone extended one-and-a-half miles around the venue. As a result, five drones were confiscated and two other drone owners were given stern words.
Fans who wish they were seeing the musicians live can now listen to an official live recording of ‘Slide Away’ from their first concert in Cardiff, which captures the energy of their performance and Liam Gallagher’s astounding vocals on the classic track.
Oasis will play four more shows at Heaton Park on 12th, 16th, 19th and 20th of July, before heading straight to London’s Wembley Stadium, and eventually up to Edinburgh.
