Council intervene to prevent fans watching Oasis for free at Heaton Park
Manchester City Council has introduced measures to prevent Oasis fans from watching their upcoming performances at Heaton Park without a ticket.
Oasis played the first of their five hometown shows at Heaton Park on July 11th. 80,000 fans watched the Gallagher brothers deliver a performance for the ages in Manchester for the first time in 16 years.
In addition to those in the main arena at Heaton Park, many watched from afar from an area of the park appropriately labelled ‘Gallagher Hill’ by fans. After footage emerged on social media of revellers singing along to Oasis from this location, thousands turned up en masse to enjoy the show for free on July 12th.
Oasis are set to return to Heaton Park for three more shows this week, kicking off on July 16th. However, a huge green fence has now been erected, which will stop those from being able to view the stage from ‘Gallagher Hill‘.
This measure has likely been introduced due to safety concerns, but Manchester City Council are yet to release an official statement clarifying the situation.
It comes after nine people were arrested at Heaton Park during the second concert, adding to the six arrests made the night before on July 11th. Five men and three women were arrested in three separate incidents on suspicion of fraud after attempting to access the show through fake accreditation. A man was also arrested on suspicion of assaulting a member of security staff.
For tomorrow’s concert, doors open at Heaton Park at 15:00 with music set to begin at 18:00 when Cast take to the stage. Then, at 19:00, The Verve’s Richard Ashcroft will perform before Oasis deliver their catalogue of hits at 20:15.
