Phoebe Bridgers “hates those fucking ICE idiots”
Phoebe Bridgers has used her highly anticipated return to the music industry to raise funding for immigrants and call out “idiots” ICE.
On June 5th, indie lovers everywhere were treated to the official announcement marking Bridgers’ return, following a sold-out no-phones show at the iconic New York venue, Madison Square Garden.
Tickets for the charity show were randomly allocated to fans who had registered interest via a ballot.
Chosen attendees had the option to pay $1, $5, $10, or $20, with all proceeds from ticket sales going towards Community Justice Exchange’s Immigration Bond Freedom Fund, which provides aid and bail to those in ICE detention centres.
During the show, she addressed fans numerous times, at one point thanking them for raising funds to support the release of immigrants from ICE detention.
Bridgers didn’t mince her words when she shared, as per NME, “I hate those fucking ICE idiots,” calling them “cops squared”.
Additionally, she asked the audience how many of them had conservative parents, and humorously thanked them for their bravery in “defecting” from the life laid out for them.
Towards the end of the show, which saw the 31-year-old play eight new songs, she gave streaming platform Tidal a shoutout for hosting the event, and for “paying artists more than any other platform.”
The ‘Motion Sickness’ singer also revealed to the crowd that she would be announcing her touring plans imminently. As promised, a day later, news of The Lost Tour, spanning the US, UK and Europe, hit the headlines.
Continuing her commitment to charitable causes, for every ticket sold on the UK and Europe leg, she will be donating £1 or €1 to Plus1, which supports those affected by sexual assault and violence.
Like her Madison Square Garden show, the forthcoming tour will be explicitly “no phones”. While on stage in America, she told the 20,000 fans in attendance, “I appreciate you allowing this to be an internet-free zone.”
