Ozzy Osbourne’s cause of death confirmed
Following the death of Ozzy Osbourne last month, aged 76, it has been revealed he died after suffering a heart attack.
The heavy metal legend’s death was announced by his family on July 22nd. Their statement, signed by his wife Sharon and four children, said the news was delivered with “more sadness than mere words can convey” and it was also revealed that he died “surrounded by love”.
The Black Sabbath legend passed away at their family home in Buckinghamshire, England, and it later emerged that emergency services had spent two hours at the property trying to save his life.
Now, the New York Times have revealed that his death certificate says that Osbourne died of a heart attack and had suffered from coronary artery disease and Parkinson’s.
The certificate was submitted by his daughter, Aimée Rose Osbourne, in London. In addition to listing his cardiac arrest and coronary artery disease among the causes, it also noted that he suffered from Parkinson’s disease.
The official cause of death comes after it was previously confirmed that air ambulance paramedics arrived at the scene and spent two hours trying to save his life. Thames Valley Air Ambulance stated, following reports, they had been “dispatched to provide advanced critical care at an incident near Chalfront St. Giles on July 22”. He was then airlifted to Harefield Hospital, Uxbridge.
Last week, on July 31st, Osbourne’s funeral took place at the family’s home near Gerrards Cross with the rock legend being buried, as he requested, near a lake at their sprawling 250-acre property in rural England.
The day before the private service, he was honoured in Birmingham for a funeral procession. Thousands of fans came out to line the streets and support his family. Chants of “Ozzy” broke out in the crowd before an escort of cars, containing the Osbourne family and the late singer’s hearse, travelled down Broad Street to make its way to Black Sabbath Bridge.
Reflecting on the public event, the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Zafar Iqbal, said: “It was incredibly emotional for me to see her and the family. They are such a loving family and you can see how loving they are.”
Meanwhile, his daughter, Kelly Osbourne, reflected on the outpouring of love she has received since Ozzy died in a social media post on August 4th: “The love, support, and beautiful messages I’ve received from so many of you have truly helped carry me through the hardest moment of my life. Every kind word, every shared memory, every bit of compassion has meant more than I can ever explain.”
On her ongoing grieving process, Kelly added: “Grief is a strange thing-it sneaks up on you in waves—I will not be ok for a while-but knowing my family are not alone in our pain makes a difference. I’m holding on tight to the love, the light, and the legacy left behind.”
His historic farewell concert, which took place just weeks before his death at Villa Park in Birmingham, the home of his beloved Aston Villa, raised almost $200 million for vital charitable causes. During the show, Osbourne performed from a throne due to his mobility issues, but still dazzled fans with a solo set before closing the all-day rock extravaganza with Black Sabbath.
Prior to the event, Osbourne expressed his gratitude about the opportunity to say farewell on his own terms, saying, “I am very blessed to say my goodbyes with the help of so many amazing musicians and friends.”
