Olivia Rodrigo says “barbaric” ICE using her music was “deeply disturbing”

Olivia Rodrigo has said she found it “deeply disturbing” to discover that ICE used her music in a social media video.

Last November, Rodrigo, who had previously been a vocal critic of ICE’s actions, condemned the administration after her song ‘All-American Bitch’ was used in a video by the Department of Homeland Security without permission.

The video, which depicted ICE officers detaining immigrants and deporting them from the US, was captioned, “LEAVE NOW and self-deport using the CBP Home app. If you don’t, you will face the consequences.”

Rodrigo responded to the clip in a since-deleted comment, writing in no uncertain terms, “Don’t ever use my songs to promote your racist, hateful propaganda.”

Then, the Department of Homeland Security took glee in firing back at the ‘Good 4 U’ singer, stating, “America is grateful all the time for our federal law enforcement officers who keep us safe. We suggest Ms. Rodrigo thank them for their service, not belittle their sacrifice.”

Now, in a new interview with Dazed, Rodrigo has revealed she “was just scrolling on my phone” upon being unexpectedly met by the ICE video.

She elaborated, “It was so deeply disturbing to see that propaganda, and the fact it was my song in there made me feel even more enraged.”

Rodrigo then condemned the actions of ICE as well as the current political landscape in America, adding, “What they’re doing is so awful and barbaric and cruel. I am really sad to be in a country that thinks that’s OK.”

The huge star’s new album, You Seem Pretty Sad For a Girl So In Love, is due to arrive on June 12th through Geffen Records.

To support the forthcoming release, Rodrigo is set to begin a huge world tour in North America in September, which will keep her on the road until May 2027.

Due to demand, Rodrigo, who was originally set to play only four shows at the venue, will play an incredible 11 nights at the O2 Arena in London, which will be her only stop in the UK on the tour.
