Olivia Rodrigo slams ICE for using her song in “racist” video: “Hateful propaganda”

Global popstar Olivia Rodrigo has hit out at the White House and the Department of Homeland Security for their use of her song, ‘All-American Bitch’, in a promotion video for self-deportations.

The Department of Homeland Security posted the clip in question. It depicts United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers detaining people. The soundtrack was the Guts track, ‘All-American Bitch’; the heavier segment of the song reflected the chaos of deportation.

In contrast, when the calmer section of the track began to play, the clip showed the ease of self-deportation. People can then be seen boarding flights while smiling, as well as giving the camera a thumbs-up.

The caption to the post read, “LEAVE NOW and self-deport using the CBP Home app. “If you don’t, you will face the consequences.”

On November 7th, in a now-deleted comment, Rodrigo responded to the clip, writing curtly, “Don’t ever use my songs to promote your racist, hateful propaganda.”

“America is grateful all the time for our federal law enforcement officers who keep us safe. We suggest Ms. Rodrigo thank them for their service, not belittle their sacrifice.”

The Department of Homeland Security has already reacted to Rodrigo’s dismay. In a statement to Rolling Stone, a spokesperson said, “America is grateful all the time for our federal law enforcement officers who keep us safe. We suggest Ms. Rodrigo thank them for their service, not belittle their sacrifice.”

The ‘Diver’s Licence’ singer has been consistently outspoken about her resistance to ICE. In June, as the ICE crisis reached a fever pitch in Los Angeles, she said, “Treating hardworking community members with such little respect, empathy, and due process is awful. I stand with the beautiful, diverse community of Los Angeles and with immigrants all across America.”

She continued, at the time, “I stand for our right to freedom of speech and freedom to protest.”
