Oasis reunion documentary set for cinemas in September: “I genuinely cannot wait for the world to see this”
Steven Knight has confirmed his Oasis documentary film is set to arrive in cinemas and IMAX later this year.
The untitled film is set to open in IMAX and cinemas worldwide for a limited theatrical run, which will start on September 11th.
The documentary, directed by Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace, will then start streaming exclusively on Disney+ internationally and on Hulu and Disney+ in the United States later this year.
In addition to capturing the tour, it includes footage of rehearsals, backstage and onstage access to the band, as well as the first joint interviews with Noel and Liam Gallagher in over 25 years.
The press release also promises, “Alongside the band’s sold-out world tour, the film also explores the profound emotional impact of this phenomenal global cultural moment and what their music means to audiences and generations worldwide.”
Knight, the creator of Peaky Blinders, who has overseen the documentary, commented: “I genuinely cannot wait for the world to see this film. I believe it captures the spirit and emotion of a global cultural moment and does justice to the wit and genius of two exceptional people.”
Knight continued, “I wanted to tell the story of the brothers and the band, but just as important, the story of the fans whose lives the music has touched and sometimes changed forever. It is also the story of how music and songwriting can unite generations, cultures, countries and in a time of spite and division, give us all some reason to hope.”
Meanwhile, Disney’s Eric Schrier said, “Opportunities like this are incredibly rare. The film is an intimate story of reconciliation, the power of music, and Oasis, one of the most successful and influential acts of all time. It’s a privilege to bring this extraordinary film to the big screen and to Disney+ subscribers around the world.”
Earlier this year, Noel Gallagher provided an update on the upcoming documentary that chronicles the story of how Oasis got back together and their victory lap across the globe, stating, “I’ve only seen a tiny little bit of it and it’s difficult to have an opinion on it because I’m only looking at little snippets.”
He continued, “Everyone who has seen it, or seen more of it than I have, has said that it’s amazing. If it even captures five per cent of what that tour was, it’ll be astonishing. Looking forward to it.”
More information, including the title of the film, are expected to arrive in due course.
