Oasis release live version of ‘Cigarettes and Alcohol’ from Manchester’s Heaton Park
Following five nights at Manchester’s Heaton Park, Oasis have shared the official live recording of their huge tune ‘Cigarettes and Alcohol’.
Their Heaton Park shows came after two nights at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium. Liam and Noel took to the stage for 80,000 people in their hometown for the first time on July 11th, and the last of the five shows taking place on 20th.
Now, the Britpop brothers have released their tune ‘Cigarettes and Alcohol’ from the opening night of their Heaton Park shows. Fans can be heard screaming along to the first lines of the song, “Is it my imagination / Or have I finally found something worth living for? / I was looking for some action / But all I found was cigarettes and alcohol.”
Midway through the song, there is a short instrumental break. In this gap, Liam can be heard exclaiming, “Well, that was fucking biblical; beautiful. Respect.” At the end of the track, he appears to shout, “[I’m] sayin’ 95 was good shit, innit man! Good shit… fucking good shit.”
The song was released on their 1994 album, Definitely Maybe. It was the eighth track, nestled between ‘Bring it on Down’ and ‘Digsy’s Dinner’. The song came sixth in their Manchester setlist, after which they rolled into tunes ‘Fade Away’ and ‘Supersonic’.
During their Heaton Park shows, a hill close to Heaton Park saw thousands of ticketless fans gathering to get a glimpse of the show, despite Manchester City Council’s attempt to fence the area off earlier in the week. On the closing night, Oasis celebrated their fans unable to get tickets by handing out ‘Gallagher Hill’ T-shirts to those outside of the venue.
Fans eager for more live recordings from their reunion shows can listen to an official live recording of ‘Slide Away’ from their first concert in Cardiff, which captures the energy of their performance and Liam Gallagher’s astounding vocals on the classic track.
Their next show will take place at London’s Wembley Stadium on July 25th.
