Noel Gallagher to team up with Shaun Ryder and Zac Starkey’s Mantra of the Cosmos for new single
Mantra of the Cosmos will unveil their new single, ‘Domino Bones,’ featuring Noel Gallagher, at The Cavern Club in Liverpool on January 19th.
The group, who played their first show in 2022, comprises of Shaun Ryder and Bez from the Happy Mondays along with The Who’s drummer Zac Starkey and Ride guitarist Andy Bell. They are set to play two shows at The Cavern on January 19th at 3pm and 8pm with Bell and Ryder also set to perform DJ sets.
The performances will mark the first time that Starkey has been to The Cavern despite being the son of The Beatles drummer Ringo Starr. It will also mark only the second time Starkey has visited Liverpool. He admitted, “Can’t believe I’ve never even been there. There’s a great deal of family heritage at the cavern aside from the Beatles my parents courted there…who knows, I may have even been conceived there!”
Starkey continued: “It’s great to be playing there and they’re great people, really looking after us. The Cavern was rebuilt but it’s the original in spirit and I’m buzzing to be doing it.”
He also said of the upcoming collaboration with Gallagher: “It’s not every day that the greatest songwriter of my generation – not to mention Shaun, the greatest beat poet of our times – sends a tune to me and I was in a daze for a bit cos it’s not something you want to f*** up! It came together great – everyone digs it!”
Additionally, Starkey revealed the compliment that Gallagher paid to Ryder, adding, “Noel loves Shaun. He texted me to say ‘Do you know what you’ve got? The British Bob Dylan’ – and he’s not f***ing about because now I’ve witnessed what Shaun does. Noel calls him the ‘king of lyrics’.”
Furthermore, Gallagher describes Mantra of the Cosmos as “like Dylan, Dali and Ginsberg on a rocketship to the moon to have it with the Clangers.”
Notably, Gallagher has a storied history with both Bell and Starkey who played in Oasis. It is yet to be revealed whether either of the musicians will participate in the band’s reunion later this year.
